The third chapter of Anthropic's Economic Index, combining usage data with a survey of Claude users about how they expect AI to change their work. Builds on 81,000 user interviews conducted in December 2025 and a survey launched in April 2026, linked to usage data using privacy-preserving methods.
Use this when you need the sentiment side rather than the usage side. It is the only report in the series that asks people how they feel about the change rather than measuring what they did, which makes it the right citation for displacement and productivity claims — and the wrong one for volume figures.

Use this when the question is whether AI is replacing work or assisting it. The augmentation-versus-automation split is the series' most quoted measure, and this is the report where the trend reverses — worth citing precisely because it complicates the simple story.

Use this when you need the framework rather than a number. The primitives defined here are what later reports measure against, so citing a trend from the series without reading this one risks quoting a metric you have not understood.

Use this when you need country-level or enterprise-level cuts. It is the report to reach for on where adoption is happening rather than what people do with it, and the historical comparisons make it useful for framing rather than just counting.
